Elaine Fleming earned a teaching certificate from BYU and an Early Childhood degree from U. of C. in the late 60's. Her working life included twenty years as a kindergarten teacher at the Rosedale Kindergarten in Calgary.
Elaine Fleming and her husband were founding members of the Canmore Artists and Artisans Guild and Life Members of the Calgary Sketch Club, receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award. Fleming was a juried member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Alberta Society of Artists, and The Leighton Centre. She also belonged to local groups from Redwood Meadows and Bragg Creek.
Actively continuing to show her art works - oil, watercolour and mixed media paintings, Elaine had many, many honours. Art was given to the Queen Mother, to sister cities, and has been shown in the National Art Gallery with a group of Western artists.
Fleming's solo and group exhibitions started in the early seventies. Her work was carried by several Canadian galleries, as well The Corner Gallery, started by her husband, Lauchlan in Canmore in 1987. Her art hangs worldwide, as corporations gifted customers with her work. Elaine also designed the Calgary Stampede pin in 1992.
She grew up on the prairies, but it is to the mountains that she travelled, looking for the new view that she would capture, in moody and awesome splendour, in her paintings.
