Antique Victorian Marcasite Embellishment Tiara Hair accessory
Elegant tiara or hair pin, Victorian era. Steelcut frame with individual marcasite "jewels" riveted into a crown shape.
2" across at the bottom and 3" across at the top. Overall height is 2.75"
Marcasite was used by the Greeks, Egyptians and Inca for centuries. It could be polished to create a brilliant and sparkly surface. Also called "Fool's Gold", marcasite came to be used a lot during the mid-19th century and through the Art Deco era of the 1920s.
Please note: there is one missing marcasite gem, see photos. If this is being worn in an updo it will not show. We have not polished this lovely piece.
(Hatpin sold separately and is only used to show how this tiara might be affixed to a hairdo.)
