Antique Victorian Marcasite silver repousée buckle accessory
Unique buckle that is mixed metal, marcasite and a silver amalgam, repousée design of bunches of grapes and grape leaves and a flower.
A beautiful and delicate accessory for a Victorian lady.
2.5" long x 1.25" high approximately.
Marcasite was used by the Greeks, Egyptians and Inca for centuries. It could be polished to create a brilliant and sparkly surface. Also called "Fool's Gold", marcasite came to be used a lot during the mid-19th century and through the Art Deco era of the 1920s.
