Exceptional and rare decorative arts filigree and 925 stamped sterling brooch, ca 1920s, designed by Ze'ev Raban in the Bezalel School style.
Ze’ev Raban (22 September 1890 – 19 January 1970), born Wolf Rawicki (Ravitzki) in Lodz Poland, was a leading painter, decorative artist, and industrial designer of the Bezalel school style, and was one of the founders of the Israeli art world. Bezalel artists like Ze’ev Raban worked to create a self-consciously “Hebrew style,” rooted in the romantic belief that the artistic traditions of the local Arab and Jewish communities were closest to the forms and styles of art of the ancient Hebrews.
The brooch features exquisitely fine filigree, with répoussée dove carrying an olive branch in its beak. It was ever thus... Stamped ST 925 and Made in Palestine.
